Cecily Blench
Writer & Editor

'Let me live, love, and say it well
in good sentences.'
―Sylvia Plath
I am a freelance writer and editor with a particular interest in travel writing, wartime history, intrepid women and Southeast Asia. I grew up in Herefordshire, attended the University of York, and now live in London. Before going freelance I worked for an independent publisher. I have written for a number of publications including Reader's Digest, Slightly Foxed, Writing Magazine and Historia.
I work as a freelance copy-editor and have regularly edited books published by Routledge, Pen & Sword, Phoenix Publishing House, Rethink Press, and Boldwood Books. I work on fiction and non-fiction, and I have a particular interest in history (in both categories).
My first novel, The Long Journey Home, won the 2019 Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize and was published by Bonnier Zaffre in June 2021. I have written a few articles about the writing process and the inspiration for the book, which you can see here. I am now working on my second novel and researching a third.
